Desire It (Holiness Part 1 of 5)
This is a 5-part series on what it takes to grow in holiness.
You can’t get anybody to do anything if they don’t first desire it. Whether that’s working out, learning a language, learning an instrument, doing anything difficult—if the desire isn’t there, nothing else will flow from it.
The same is true with our faith. If we don’t desire holiness, then we won’t be holy.
This might seem obvious, but think about it honestly. Do we actually want to be holy? Or do we just think we should want to be holy? Do we long for closeness with God, or do we prefer the comfort of keeping Him at arm’s length?
Because if the desire isn’t there—really there—then all the knowledge in the world, all the good intentions, all the spiritual practices won’t matter. They’ll just be empty motions.
So the first question, the foundational question, is this: Do you desire holiness?
If the answer is no, or if you’re not sure, that’s okay. That’s actually a good place to start. Because you can ask God for the desire itself. You can pray, “Lord, I don’t even know if I want this. Give me the desire for holiness.”
His hand was the first, remember? Even our desire for Him starts with His desire for us.
