In a Word

One of the most challenging lines in Scripture, from a practical standpoint, is the command to pray unceasingly.
Itâs such a wild idea when you think about what daily life actually looks like. Work, kids, marriage, the trash needs to go out, the lawn needs to be cutâall these things that occupy our minds and our time.
How could we possibly pray unceasingly?
But the Catechism puts this into terms that are a little easier to grasp:
âThe invocation of the Holy Name of Jesus is the simplest way of praying always.â (CCC 2668)
The simplest way to pray always is to repeat the name Jesus.
Itâs something that can almost be subconscious. Jesus. A prayer that can find its way into any activityâdriving, working, folding laundry, standing in line.
Itâs so short and simple that in one word, we honor our Lord. We bring our minds even just a fraction closer to Him.
When youâre frustrated. When youâre grateful. When you donât know what else to say.
The name above every name. The Word made flesh. The answer to every question we didnât know how to ask.
Pray unceasingly? Start with one word.
Jesus.
