Power Washing
Before the weather got too cold, I decided to do some power washing around the house. It had been on my list for a while, but other things got in the way and I kept pushing it off.
As I was out there power washing our sidewalk, blown away by how good it looks, I realized there’s a simple lesson here.
Power washing can be so satisfying. If you’ve ever seen a video online of power washing, you know how satisfying it can be just to watch.
But the funny thing I realized is this: it’s so much easier to watch a video about power washing than to get out there and actually do it.
The same is true for our faith.
It’s so easy to read these reflections or listen to a podcast or read an article from some Catholic news outlet. But it’s a lot different than getting out there and doing it.
That’s the lesson. We can fool ourselves into thinking we’re living the faith or practicing the faith because we’re thinking about it, reading about it, watching it.
But at the end of the day, we have to get out there and do it.
