I love the wisdom distilled here. It reminds me of the old advice or guidance on airplanes to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others.
I think in the church today, or at least in my small sample size of the church today, there are so many people with good intentions who want to help, who want to serve, but they don’t know where.
I would challenge us with this: the place to start is with our union with God. Build our lives on that foundation, and then every good that we can do, every bit of service that we do, springs from that. It is not only the impetus that we share, but the thing that we share.
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, You know our deepest desires. Enkindle in us the fire to pursue You and share that union with the world around us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
